Indonesian Vanilla Market Report – September 2025
2025 Crop Overview:
A Year of Resilience
This year’s Indonesian vanilla crop was smaller, reaching around 30% of 2024 levels. The extended rains shortened the critical dry spell and encouraged some fungal pressure, leading to reduced yields. While volumes were affected, this year also highlighted the resilience of our farmer network, who adapted and worked closely with our field team to secure supply.
Overcoming Challenges Across Indonesia
Our sourcing network covers more than 77,000 square miles—larger than the state of Nebras- ka—spanning hundreds of villages connected by challenging roads. Even when trucks faced mechanical setbacks, our 30 dedicated Field Officers and farmer partners ensured smooth collection. Their commitment shows that despite difficult weather, the supply chain remains strong and dependable.
Quality at Its Best
Although volumes were lower, the quality of Indonesian vanilla this year has been outstanding. More than 5,000 registered farmers waited for the right harvest time, producing beans with exceptional maturity, rich aroma, and high vanillin content. We consider the 2025 crop among the finest qualities we’ve secured to date, a strong foundation for future sourcing.
A Strong Future for Indonesian Vanilla
While some farmers outside organized supply chains have shifted to other crops, our direct partnerships continue to give farmers confidence in vanilla. With training, technical support, rainwater harvesting systems, and guaranteed markets, Origine ensures that vanilla remains an attractive and sustainable option. This approach not only secures consistent supply for our partners but also strengthens the long-term resilience of Indonesian vanilla.
Looking Ahead: Positive Outlook for 2026
The unusual rains extended into late July, which delayed flowering. While this initially slowed the start of the 2026 crop, we are already seeing encouraging signs. As conditions stabilize, we expect flower- ing to improve, opening the door for a much stronger crop in 2026. With continued investment in farmer training, sustainability initiatives, and our expanding network, we are confident that Indonesian vanilla will remain a reliable source of high-quality beans for years to come.
